FLEWNT is an award-winning Noongar Wongi hip-hop MC and activist from Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia.

A leading voice and advocate for the Australian hip-hop scene, FLEWNT’s music speaks to a lived experience shared by many First Nations youths today.

With a family legacy rooted in staunch activism for Aboriginal rights, FLEWNT has strong political foundations, and uses hip-hop as his platform to articulate a powerful, positive, and uplifting message for his people.

FLEWNT’s career spans over six years and has seen win multiple awards and perform to audiences across Australia and in the United States.

Alongside his hip-hop career, FLEWNT facilitates music programs with at risk youth at both Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre and Casuarina Prison in Western Australia. Empowering young people and using music as a means of connecting to culture, he also runs programs at remote schools across the state, as well as within the various music studios across Boorloo (Perth).

2024 sees him internationally recognised for his work in hip-hop herapy, when he was invited as a guest of the U.S State Department to complete an IVLP (International Visitors Leadership Programme) on Hip-Hop & Civil Engagement – representing Australia with Hip Hop artists from around the globe.

This year FLEWNT was also recognised for his community work and awarded the Auspire  Young  Citizen of the Year from the City of Melville.

Perhaps the young-father of five’s proudest professional achievement however is his collaborations with his eldest son INKABEE, who shot into fame in December 2022 with his debut track ‘Beat the Odds’ – co-written by FLEWNT.

In 2023, the father-son duo appeared on Australian radio broadcaster triple j’s Bars of Steel segment – with the clip of the pair rapping the track ‘ We Dat Good’ live-on-air becoming viral sensation and garnering over nine million views on TikTok alone.

INKABEE and FLEWNT officially released ‘We Dat Good’ that same year, and in 2024, the pair struck international attention performing it on US hit tv program America’s Got Talent – broadcasted on NBC to approx. 10 million viewers – with duo receiving high praise from the judges and Simon Cowell stating, ‘ We have just seen what I call a moment. Just the way you perform together, it was mesmerising.’ INKABEE and FLEWNT are currently still in the competition.

Bursting onto the Australian hip-hop scene in 2018, FLEWNT’s breakthrough single ‘Kya Kyana’ – a roaring Noongar anthem and tribute to the history of his family, culture, and people – was awarded West Australian Music ’s Song of the Year award (2018). His follow up track, the autobiographical ‘Black Boy’ ft Emily Wurramara won the NAIDOC Award ’s Best Song & Best Hip-Hop Song in 2019.

FLEWNT has since released ‘Always Was’ (2020), a powerful call-to-action track which was featured on NITV’s Logie Award winning documentary Incarceration Nation . In 2023 he released ‘Throw Away the Keys’ alongside Beni Bjah, calling out the injustices Indigenous people face in the Australian Justice System, and the same year he also released SouWess, a jammy love-note to his country and community on Australia’s west coast.

FLEWNT’s music continues to be on rotation on music radio stations across Australia, including triple j, Double J, ABC Radio, Triple RRR, FBi, and RTR.

FLEWNT’s high energy performance style has seen him programmed on some of the biggest stages across the country for major music, cultural, and sporting events.

Alongside INKABEE, FLEWNT performed at SXSW Texas festival (2024) at the Australian pavilion and for a G’Day Australia event, and SXSW Sydney (2023). He has performed at VIVID Sydney at the iconic Sydney Opera House (2024) and Carriageworks (2023), as well as Yarrapay Festival in Arnhem Land (2024).

He has performed to large crowds at major sporting events such as the Indigenous round of the AFL for the Fremantle Dockers at Perth’s Optus stadium to 60,000 people, and World Cup Rugby 7’s finals at Perth’s HBF stadium in front of 20,000 crowd and broadcasted internationally.

FLEWNT has also performed at Strawberry Fields, Beyond the Valley festival, Groove in the Moo, The Ord Valley Muster And has toured the country supporting Downsyde’s national tour.

Continuing to support West Australian artists and music, FLEWNT has also hosted FLEWNT’s Boorloo Block Party – a lineup of First Nations hip-hop acts – at Perth Festival annually from 2022-2024.

The event continues to grow and has seen guests acts such JK47, Kobie Dee, JMilla and 3% perform alongside WA-based artists for a WA audience.

2024 saw FLEWNT take the event across the state, with a rural all-ages spin-off Block Party Boom, which saw him perform, run workshops, and hold rap-battles with aspiring performers in Broome, Geraldton and Busselton.

In 2024, FLEWNT continues to write and perform.
